Overview

As Lead UX Designer at Deloitte Digital, I led a large-scale UX and research engagement for Orica's global website, focused on improving usability, unifying the experience across a fragmented platform, and building a scalable design system that could support a diverse global audience including customers, investors, and industry stakeholders.

Problem Statement

Orica's digital presence had grown faster than the experience holding it together. Multiple disconnected product sites, inconsistent UI patterns, and limited user validation had created a fragmented platform that was difficult to navigate, hard to scale, and misaligned with both user needs and business goals.

Key challenges included:

  • Complex navigation and unclear information hierarchy
  • Inconsistent UI patterns across pages, templates, and product sites
  • Multi-lingual requirements with limited localisation support across regions
  • A fragmented platform with multiple product sites instead of a unified experience
  • Significant complexity in migrating existing Orica product platforms into a single system
  • Limited usability testing to validate user flows
  • Difficulty for users to find relevant products, services, and resources
  • Misalignment between business goals and user needs

Deliverables

  • UX strategy and experience principles
  • Component standardisation and design system foundations
  • Wireframes and high-fidelity designs
  • Usability testing planning, facilitation, and synthesis
  • Iterative design improvements based on user feedback
  • Information architecture support and refinement
  • User journey mapping across key audience groups
  • Stakeholder workshops and design alignment sessions

Outcome

The engagement resulted in a unified, scalable platform that meaningfully improved the experience for Orica's global audience while giving internal teams a stronger foundation to build on.

Key outcomes:

  • Consolidated multiple product sites into a single, scalable platform
  • Improved foundations for multi-language and regional rollout
  • Simplified navigation and improved content discoverability
  • Consistent and scalable UI across the platform
  • User-informed design decisions through structured usability testing
  • Stronger alignment between user needs and business objectives
  • A more sustainable foundation for ongoing digital evolution
